Today's Chesapeake bay bass fishing report is from an open team bass fishing tournament I fished put on by Delaware Bass Federation Nation 08/17/13. For all you bass fishing fans that have been following along. Unfortunately, I did not make the qualifying cut to fish in next weeks invite only for the DBFN classic out of Turners Creek. ( Sassafras River ).

Me and my partner ( Dad ) had a below average day today. Everything started off well but got progressively worse from there. We launched out of Turners Creek just off the Sassafras River and headed straight out onto the Susquehanna flats.

Once we arrived on the Susquehanna flats I pick up my secret swim jig from Buckeye Lures and tipped it off with a Gambler TZ swimbait. This combination has been producing solid results all year for me.

True to form the first two bass of the day where 4 lbs each! Both bass where caught on my secret swim jig. The water temp was 76 degrees on the Susquehanna flats and we had a 1 - 3 ft chop with heavily stained water conditions.

The tide was falling fast and the grass beds where heavily matted so we decided to head over to the Bohemia River for a short spell. We fished a few docks and looked for grass beds that where holding a few decent bass. No luck, so I fired up the o'l 250 HP Mercury outboard and headed back to the Sassafras River looking for less wave action and cleaner water conditions.

Between waves and large boat traffic wakes the Sassafras River was churned up pretty bad. So we tried a few coves and creeks off the main river with very little luck. When it was all said and done we landed 11 - 12 bass total with our best 5 bass weighing in just over 14 lbs. Official results are not posted yet but I believe 21 pounds won this tournament.

Baits Used:

I landed a couple bass on wacky worm my Dad caught three bass on a Gambler Ace. We also threw a War Eagle Buzzbait, Buckeye Wake Up Wake Bait, Megabass Pop X, War Eagle Twin Spin and my secret swim jig from Buckeye Lures. A few other baits we had tied on but did not get to use because grass matted up to much in the areas we fished today were Rat-L-Traps, Megabass Ito Vision 110 Jr. , Megabass Griffon 6CC and Megabass Knuckle 60.
