Today's Potomac river bass fishing report is from a FLW Bass Fishing League super tournament held on September 21st - 22nd 2013. I came into this tournament with a game plane that would have me starting the day out in the upper reaches of Mattawomen creek. I had heard and observed that a few schools of shads where populating this area of the creek.

It all sounded really great in the days leading up to the event. Find the shad and land some fish! As it turned out there was only one snag in the game plane. On tournament day several other tournaments were being launched on the Potomac River. Some of those anglers beat me to my spots and one of those anglers happened to be someone that I had come to know previously.

Any luck I ask? Yeah caught a bunch out of this spot early on, been culling for an hour or so. If that don't chap your bottom noth'n will !!! Realizing my game plan had been foiled, I ventured my way back out to the main river looking for hard cover areas and any signs of schooled up shad I could find along the way.

I started off in a nice looking spot on the main river and landed 3 largemouth bass in short order. Then everything went cold after that. All three fish where caught on a crankbait. My catch was good enough for 37th place in this event with a total of 7 lbs 05 ozs.

I came into this tournament ranked 28th overall in the Shenandoah division. I don't know how much this showing will help me but I hope it does not hurt me to bad. Top 40 anglers on the year go to the FLW Bass Fishing League regional championship in October. Stay tuned...
