I fished the Upper Cheseapeake Bay today with my Dad. This was an open buddy tournament hosted by Delaware Bass Federation on the Sassafras River. I put in at Havre De Grace boat ramp and headed to the other side of the Chesapeake Bay where I picked my dad up in Turners Creek.

The day started off slow while we fished a few spots on the Sassafrass River with War Eagle spinnerbaits, Gambler Flappy Daddy's and Eco Pro Tungsten drop shots. We decide to head out of the Sassafrass River and onto the Chesapeake Bay to turn our luck around.

Best move we made all day, first cast and BANG !!!  4 lb 06 oz largemouth bass inhaled the bladed swim jig that my Dad was using. He managed a few more bass that measured on a soft plastic stick bait rigged Texas style.

I tried picking up the slack knowing we would need 25 lbs - 30 lbs to win this tournament. I had some nice results with the brand new Little EZ swimbait from Gambler Lures. The BIG EZ from Gambler Lures also produced well for me in this tournament.

Tried my darndest to get a few quality bites on a flippin jig from Buckeye Lures and a hollow bellied topwater frog but it did not pan out today. The wacky worm helped keep us in it with 18 lbs 96 oz.

That's a good day on a lot of lakes and rivers but turns out it's fairly regular on the Upper Chesapeake Bay these days. 18 lbs 96 oz was only good for 21st place on this day! The good news is it helped move us up into 17th place overall in end of the year "Classic Points Standings."

Top 25 points leaders on the year fish the Delaware Bass Federation "Classic" and there is one tournament left. It's not a lock at this point, it should be interesting to see who makes the cut.
