Hello bass fishing fans! Today's Pocomoke River bass fishing report is from an open team buddy tournament that I fished July 13th, 2014. 38 boats turned out for this Delaware Bass Federation tournament. The river water was mostly clear and warm around 85 degrees.

Today my partner and I set out to fish parts of the main river between the bridge in the town of Snow Hill, Maryland and Nassawango Creek roughly 1 mile southwest of Snow Hill. Focusing mostly on cypress trees, lily pads and stumps along the way.

We wound up catching 40 largemouth bass total ranging from 5 inches up to 2 lb .08 oz. I wish that I could be a little more entertaining with the different technical approaches and baits that we used. However, I was coming off a 6th place and 3rd place finish in recent weeks respectively.

I had 15 - 20 rods all baited up and ready to use today but it was predetermined that we would stick with what was hot coming into this Pocomoke river bass fishing tournament. Good, bad or indifferent. As a result we were limited with our bait selection for the most part of the day. A wacky worm or a Gambler Ace on a weightless Texas rig. My go to fishing rod today was a Big Bear Medium Light Action rod paired with a Okuma Helios 35s spinning reel.

A 7 Bass limit of 16 lb .92 oz took 1st place today on the Pocomoke River but we did not come close to that mark. We ended up with 6 bass for 7.64 and in the process slid down from 26th on end of the year Classic points to 30th place with one tournament to go.

Sometimes it does pay to keep things simple but today was not that day!

Tight Lines & Heavy Limits,

Melvin Smitson
