Smitson Fishing For DBFN Classic Birth On Sassafras River:

Professional bass fishing angler Melvin Smitson looks to secure a Delaware Bass Federation Nation Classic birth on the Sassafras River ( Upper Chesapeake Bay ). Smitson currently sits in 9 th place overall with the top 10 teams in overall points for the year predicted to make the DBFN Classic cut.

The 1st ever Delaware Bass Federation Nation Classic on August 31st may turn out to be a winner take all event if it turns out to field 10 boats or fewer. Making the upcoming and final open team buddy tournament on August 17th the most critical DBFN tournament of the year!

"There is certainly no room for error. I could not hand pick a better fishery to try and go out and lock up my spot in the DBFN classic. When folk's around the country think of bass fishing in Maryland. I usually hear them talking about the Potomac River and all the bass fishing trips they have made there. However, the Sassafras River and the Upper Chesapeake Bay as a whole fishes just as well if not better than the Potomac River on most day's."

The biggest thing holding the Upper Chesapeake Bay back from being a MAJOR bass fishing destination from around the country are the lack of quality ramps that the bigger bass fishing trails need to host their events comfortably. The bass fishing itself is spot on. It's probably going to take a solid 20 lbs limit with a few 4 lb - 8 lb bass sprinkled in for big fish to win this event.
