Pocomoke River Bass Fishing Report August 9th 2014:

Hello Bass Fishing Fans! This Pocomoke River bass fishing report is from a 19 boat open team buddy tournament put on by Delaware Bass Federation Nation out of Shad Landing located 3.5 miles south of Snow Hill, Maryland.

pocomoke-river-bass-fishing-report-august-2014-zekoshoes.jpg If you have been following along? Then you know from my last Pocomoke River bass fishing report that most of the bass I have landed recently on the Pocomoke River have been small in size but plentiful in numbers.

Leaving me in a bit of a quandary? Should I change my bait selection for today's tournament or should I change my fishing areas for today's tournament? or both?

The question that ran through my mind heading into this tournament most often was, were are the biggest bass located on the Pocomoke River in August and what do I need to catch them? My history on the Pocomoke River lead me to head north from the boat ramp at Shad Landing first thing in the morning.

With an out going tide forecast, I decided to crank up the Mercury outboard motor and run straight up to Nassawango Creek as far as we could go, up to the wooden bridge. From there we fished our way back down to the Pocomoke River.

Hitting cypress tress, lily pads, bushes and stumps along the way. The fish catching action was good, the tide was falling just right but the bigger bass were not biting. I managed 3 fish on swimbait in Nassawango Creek and a bunch on a wacky worm before incoming tide and then the swimbait bite turned off. From there we ran about 1 mile north on the main river to Goat Island with more of the same, all small fish!

Up to this point in the day everything has been pretty much text book on playing the tide. The general rule of thumb goes like this, run as far up river as you can on a falling tide to allow your self the most time to fish the best out going tide of the day. Easier said then done!

Here is were we rolled the dice and decided to run back down the Pocomoke River until we hit an area known as the Country Club several miles south. At the Country Club we fished tree branches, lily pads and docks catching a few small bass.

This move south speed up our time available to fish the somewhat less productive incoming tide bite. Having fully bought into our plan of attack we traveled even further down river from the Country Club to Milburn Landing. No bites, by now the tide was ripping in and it was time to head back up north to Shad Landing for weigh in.

Overall, this was a productive bass catching day on the Pocomoke River. Leaving us with 25 bass, with our best 5 bass weighing around 6 lbs total. Our biggest bass weighed in around 1 pound 1/4 ounces. Our best bass catching baits today were the wacky worm, weightless Texas rig worms and swimbait. Most bass were caught in cypress trees and bushes. Bladed Swim Jigs, Crankbaits, Jigs, Spinnerbaits and Creature baits were less effective.
