Hello bass fishing fans !!! Today's Pocomoke River bass fishing report is from a Pocomoke River open team tournament put on by Delaware Bass Federation out of the Byrd Park boat ramp in Snow Hill, Maryland on August 25th 2013. I set out today looking for a victory and I was also looking to secure a place in the Delaware Bass Federation Classic. The first objective did not pan out and the later is now in BIG TIME jeopardy!

This mornings air temp was in the 50's and the Pocomoke River water conditions where muddy. Throw in jet skiers, pleasure boaters and boat wakes from around 38 bass boats in a short area. Ohhhhh well, you have been in this situation before I'm fairly certain of it, so no more belly aching.

Let's get to the fishing report shall we? I landed 3 bass on a wacky worm along with a healthy looking 3 lb pickerel. I tried keeping things slow and simple but luck was not on my side today. I missed 3 keepers on a shaky head worm and then missed a few more bass on a new wacky Webo worm from Gambler Lures.

Nothing on my secret swim jig from Buckeye Lures, nothing on a hollow bellied frog and nothing on a Megabass Knuckle 60. If the presentation was not slow or sitting still I was not getting bites today. To make matters worse the bass that were biting were taking the whole bait and leaving my hook clean. The fish were not nailing the bait like they usually do, just a soft bite and I could not get any of them fish hooked right all day.

Today, we noticed that the Lilly pads around Goat Island and the main river up toward the draw bridge where turning brown and all full of a slim. Our boat was covered with hundreds maybe thousands of baby gnats and a fowl odor was present. Just in case you thought that smell was my Dad getting skunked in the back of the boat. I should tell you in all fairness that it was not the case.

My dad managed 3 little bass that did not measure on a Texas rigged Gambler Ace. He also landed two pickerels that weighed around 2 pounds each. He also used a War Eagle twin spin, War Eagle buzzbait and bladed swim jig with no luck.

Not sure what was going with the lilly pads around Goat Island because every pad down river was still alive and green. If your fishing the Pocomoke River anytime soon have a alternative plan ready.

Especially, if Goat Island is one of your planed destinations. Something about the patches of floating stuff going under the boat today was clearly not right.

If your wondering where to go on your fall Pocomoke River fishing trip? Bass fishing spots below Goat Island and headed down towards Pocomoke City might hold better fishing conditions heading into the fall bass fishing season. When today's Pocomoke River bass fishing tournament was all said and done we landed 3 keepers for 5 lbs .30 oz. Placing us in 29th for the day.

There were a dozen or so new boats at today's tournament that might help be critical in helping me make the classic. I was thinking that it would take 20th place or better to land a spot in the classic but we will have to see where I finished when the overall point standings are posted...

Fingers Crossed,
